Training in Sound

Students working with drums and other instruments during a training session

We offer a range of training opportunities in sound-based work, from introductory workshops to more in-depth learning. These suit both those exploring sound for personal interest and those wishing to begin or develop their work with others. We also work with practitioners from related fields who want to understand how sound can be integrated thoughtfully into existing clinical or therapeutic practice. The field has grown considerably in recent years, which means there is now a wide range of what is on offer. Our training is grounded in clinical experience as well as in direct practice with drum, gong, rattle, and bowls.

How the training is approached

The emphasis is on direct experience rather than theory alone. Training involves working with a range of instruments, developing awareness of how sound is produced, how it is experienced, and how it can be used with genuine attentiveness.

Rather than following a rigid method, the training introduces principles that can be applied flexibly depending on context. We are less interested in producing practitioners who replicate a technique, and more interested in supporting people to develop their own confident, grounded relationship with sound as a tool for their work.

Participants often find that the training changes not just what they know, but how they listen.

Areas of training

Training may include:

Some sessions are introductory, while others go into greater depth. The focus is always on developing confidence, sensitivity, and a grounded approach to working with sound.

Who it is for

This training suits those who are curious about sound and how it works, those who want to deepen their own experience, and those already working with people who wish to integrate sound into their practice. No prior experience is required for introductory sessions.

Training is offered in small groups, giving participants time to work with the instruments, ask questions, and properly integrate what they are encountering. If you are a practitioner in a related field considering how sound might complement your existing work, we are happy to have an initial conversation.
