This notice explains what happens to your information when you use this website or get in touch with us. It is written to be read, not to be got past. If anything here is unclear, please ask.

Who we are
Devon Sound Therapy is James and Jane Schindler-Ord, working from Sheila Robb House, Oak Place, Newton Abbot, TQ12 2EX. We are the data controller for the information described here, which means we decide what is collected and what is done with it. When you use the contact form
The contact form asks for your name, your email address and your message. Nothing else is required and nothing is collected without your seeing it.
When you send it, two things happen. The message is emailed to us, and a copy is saved in this website’s own database so that an enquiry cannot be lost if an email goes astray. Both copies contain exactly what you typed.
We use that information for one purpose: to reply to you and to carry on the conversation you started. We do not add you to a mailing list, we do not send marketing, and we do not pass your details to anyone else.
Please do not use the contact form to tell us anything medically sensitive. A first message saying you would like to talk is enough. Anything about your health is better discussed once we are in touch properly, and email is not a private medium.
Our lawful basis for holding what you send is legitimate interests: you have asked us a question and we cannot answer it without keeping your message and your address long enough to reply.
How long we keep it
If we do not go on to work together, your enquiry is deleted after twelve months, from both the website and our email. You are welcome to ask us to delete it sooner and we will do it the same day.
If you become a client or a student, we are required by our professional insurance to keep your contact details, and any notes we make, for five years after we last have contact with you. After that they are destroyed. This is not a choice we make case by case; it is a condition of being insured to practise, and it exists to protect you as much as us.
If you become a client
This notice covers the website. The records we keep about people we work with therapeutically, and about students on our courses, are governed by our professional obligations and our insurers, and are explained to you directly before any work begins. Nothing on this website forms part of those records.
In short: we keep contact details and notes for five years after our last contact with you, because we are required to, and then they are destroyed.
Cookies
This site sets one cookie, and only if you ask it to. If you use the light and dark control in the header, your choice is remembered in a cookie named hd_display so that the site looks the same next time you visit. It holds nothing but that preference, it lasts a year, and it is never read by anyone but this site. If you never touch that control, no cookie is set.
There is no analytics on this site. No Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no tracking of any kind. We do not know who visits, which pages they read or where they came from, and we have chosen it that way.
What this site loads from elsewhere
Nothing. Every image, font, stylesheet and script on this site is served from this domain. There are no embedded fonts from Google, no social media widgets, no video embeds and no external scripts, so no other company learns that you were here.
The one exception is that some pages link out to other websites, such as published research or the College of Sound Healing. Following a link takes you to somebody else’s site, which has its own privacy notice and is not covered by this one.
Server and security records
Like any website, this one runs on a server that keeps ordinary technical logs: the address of the computer making each request, the page asked for, and the time. Security software on the site also records failed login attempts and blocked requests. This is a normal and necessary part of keeping a website running and defended, our lawful basis for it is legitimate interests, and none of it is used to identify or follow visitors.
Who else sees your information
Nobody, other than the companies that necessarily handle it in order for the site and our email to work: the company that hosts this website and the provider that carries our email. They act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes. We do not sell, share or trade personal information with anyone, ever.
Your information is held within the United Kingdom.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask us:
- what information we hold about you, and for a copy of it
- to correct anything that is wrong
- to delete it
- to stop using it, or to restrict what we do with it
- to object to our holding it at all
Ask us and we will do it. There is no charge, and we will respond within one month. In practice, deleting an enquiry is a matter of minutes and you do not need to give a reason.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first and give us the chance to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. We will not make a change that affects how we treat information you have already sent us without telling you.
